Doctor Allen E.Hussar was originally from Hungary and of the Jewish faith. He served in India in the foreign service in 1940 after fleeing from Hitler's reign of terror to the United States, becoming a Naturalized US citizen at the US District Court in New York on Jan 2nd, 1940. He also brought other family members to this country while he worked as a Doctor at the Army hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It is here that he met Helen Taylor, my aunt, and a Lab and X-Ray Technician; they fell in love and married. Following the end of World War II, he continued to work at the Veteran's Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama before being transferred to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Veteran's Administration Hospital, Montrose, New York, as the Administrator of the hospital, contributing articles and publications until well after his retirement. He and his wife enjoyed touring Europe and visiting their nieces as they could not have children of their own. He also brought over relatives he could locate in communist held countries. Both my aunt and uncle had told us that we could come to visit them in New York when we graduated from high school, but it never came to fruition, which has always saddened me. I remember him as a kind and generous person, with a great sense of humor. He loved us as if we were his own daughters. My aunt Helen died in 1983 and her dear husband, Dr. Allen Elemer Hussar died almost exactly two years later, at the age of 85 in the Bronx, New York and was cremated at Ferncliff Crematory, Hartsdale, New York. Close relatives from Hungary have retained the ashes of both Allen and Helen Hussar for possible later interment at an unspecified location.
Memorial Created January 2011 by their niece.
