----
Whether it was because his parents were from Georgia, or because he disliked haste and hurrying, Jay spoke with a long, slow southern drawl unlike the general speech of the peninsula of Florida. He joked that he didn't need to FINISH a sentence, because the listeners would get tired of waiting and do it for him (true). He moved that way, too, with a certain deliberate stride, though he could be lightning quick if necessary. His smile would come slowly, and last long - people truly enjoyed his company. He was employed for several years as a loader operator at the phosphate mines; a favorite of the drivers; they had many entertaining stories about Jay and they respected his abilities. Water claimed his leisure time - fishing, boating, or any variation of water sport. He also much anticipated his yearly hunting trips to Georgia. Before he got sick Jay was tall, strong, hardworking, honest, & the kind of guy folks would call when they needed help with a project or a companion for outings. Some of his practical jokes are legend - his mother said life was just not the same without him.
