Dolores McDonald, born in the farm community of Burns, MN, passed away at age 87. Orphaned at three years, she was raised in the Christian home of the John Westlund family. Following her high school graduation, she worked during World War II at the ammunition plant in Anoka, MN until her 1945 relocation to San Diego. There she met and was engaged to Paul Neuenswander and on June 26, 1946 ,they were married - a union lasting one month short of 64 years. The first two years of married life they lived in Kansas, relocating to San Diego in mid 1948 where they've lived until her passing. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an excellent hostess with an amazingly sharp recall of dates and events. Her quiet/servant type spirit and listening ear were a strong support to her family. She was preceded in death by her son Paul Dean in 2003. She is survived by her husband Paul, daughter Janet Richie (Larry) of La Mesa, son Irvin of Longview, WA, daughter Sheryl Lang (Mark) of San Diego;, nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. From her life with us we have gained much and although in her passing we have lost much, yet so very many rich and lasting memories remain. Through a life filled with an amazing mix of heartaches and joys, she learned well the reality of Rom. 8:28 that "all things do work together for good to those who are committed to Christ." Viewing will be at Greenwood Mortuary, Interstate 805 and Imperial Ave., San Diego on May 27, 2010, beginning at 2 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. Service, in celebration of her life at the Salli Lynn Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to San Diego Hospice.
