Funeral services were conducted Friday Afternoon from the Del Norte Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Fred Fuchs, 67, a long-time resident of the Del Norte community and of the valley. She succumbed at the hospital last Wednesday after several years of poor health and several months of critical illness.
Laura E. Turnbull was born in Wilmington, Kansas on July 1, 1883, the daughter of Frank and Amy Turnbull. She came to the valley via covered wagon when a small girl and the family settled east of Monte Vista.
Mrs. Fuchs came to Del Norte in her youth and finished her education in the Del Norte Schools. On August 2, 1906 she was united in marriage to Fred Fuchs of Del Norte, in the Presbyterian Church.
They moved to Creede in the early days where Mr. Fuchs was employed in the Creede mines, coming to Del Norte the next spring and establishing their home on Pinos Creek ranch, which has been home continuously.
A son, William, died in infancy. Her greatest joy in later years has been in her four grandsons, working in her flower garden and spreading cheerfulness among her friend in the form of flowers and kindly acts.
Rev. C.E. McCarrell officiated at the Friday rites. Burial was in the Del Norte Cemetery. The pallbearers were Chris, Elijah, Ernest, Folon and Ray Aydelotte and J.S. Wright.
Mrs. Fuchs is survived by her husband, one son, Hugh, and the four grandsons, Freddie, LeRoy, Dickie and Michael: three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Shafer of Montrose, Mrs. Hulda Lohr, City and Mrs. Mary Denton of Monte Vista: and three brothers Riley Turnbull of Alamosa. Richard and Eli, both of Montrose.
