Ann Sutcliffe was born in Soyland, Halifax, Yorkshire. She came to Philadelphia with her family in 1834. She married Tom Collins in Manayunk January 13, 1850. She and Tom had 13 children, many of whom died young. Ann and Tom celebrated their 50th anniversary at a party given by their daughter, Hattie. Here is the newspaper account:
Mr and Mrs Thomas Collins, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday evening last at the home of their son-in-law, J Fletcher Preston, at 4417 Manayunk avenue, are, perhaps, the most widely known aged couple in this section of the city where they have spent almost all of their lives. Their wedding anniversary was quite informal, but they were surrounded by a large number of relatives and friends who extended their hearty congratulations and best wishes for the future.
