German actor and voice-over artist.
Came to the movies in 1933 (Du sollst nicht begehren, and Blut und Scholle) with little roles, but soon became one of Germany's most prolific actors. His final role was a made-for-TV-movie in 1971 (Kirsch und Kern). Paul Klinger's first marriage was from 1936 to 1945 to fellow actress Hildegard Wolf. They had one child together. In 1950 he married another actress, Karin Andersen, with whom he had two children. They were married until he died of a heart attack in 1971. He is most known for his work as a voice-over artist. From 1960 on he worked mainly behind the scenes and gave many Hollywood actors their German voice, e.g. Charlton Heston, Jean Marais, Jean Gabin, Cary Grant, Stewart Granger and William Holden. The German postal service honored him on his 100th birthday by publishing a postal stamp featuring a scene from his 1956 movie 'Hengst Maestoso Austria', co-starring Nadia Grey.
The Paul-Klinger-KĂĽnstlersozialwerk e.V. is a German organization by actors for actors to support one another in all aspects of their careers, as well as their social network, which includes retirement, insurances and health care issues.
