Carl William Amick
NIMITZ — Carl William Amick, 76, of Nimitz, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006 while working on his farm at Nimitz, W.Va.

Born January 31, 1930 at Russellville, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Bartlett and Lena Nutter Amick.

Mr. Amick was a 1948 graduate of Nutall High School. Following high school he joined the U.S. Navy and became a Commissioned Officer in 1958. He served his country in Korea and Vietnam. He was the Commanding Officer of the USS Patapsco and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in October 1970.

Carl was an active member of the Bluestone Baptist Church and was associated with many organizations including: 17 years with the Southern Soil Conservation District, the American Red Cross, President of the Jumping Branch/Nimitz PSD, President of the Summers County Farm Bureau, Board Member at the Southern States COOP, Member of Woodlands Owner's Association of West Virginia and others.

Preceded in death by one son, Steven Breck Amick, February 2, 2006 his parents, one sister, Laura Mae Amick and three brothers: Fred, Ray and Robert Amick.

He is survived by his wife: Loretta Thurmon Amick, two sons: Richard Amick of King George, VA., and Gene Amick and his wife Janet of Nimitz, W.Va., one daughter: Ronda Bachar and her husband Doug of Morgantown, W.Va., four granddaughters; Sarah Amick of Richmond, VA., Rachel Amick of Nimitz,W.Va. Amanda Bachar and Cheryl Bachar both of Morgantown, W.Va. and two grandsons; Jacob Amick of Laurel, MD., and Jared Bachar of Morgantown, W.Va.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bluestone Baptist Church at Jumping Branch with Pastor Bill Fox officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz.

Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations of sympathy be made to the American Red Cross.
