Fred served as a Staff Sergeant on B-17G #43-38699, 850th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, 8th Air Force, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Union County, New Jersey prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on June 30, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Separated, with dependents.

Fred was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 suffered a mid-air collision with B-17G #43-38167 over France and crashed during the war.

Two civilians that were at the crash site were also killed.

He was awarded an Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

His next of kin was noted as Mrs. Elsie Horton who resided in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
