John Teisdale M 18 Missouri
Private Boedy joined the 144th Illinois Volunteer Infantry on Sept 19, 1864, at the age of 18. He was 5'5" with brown hair, grey eyes and a dark complexion. Although one record says Christian was killed in Alton, Illinois, on March 27, 1865, military records state that he died on March 27 in the Regmental Hospital of Typhoid Mal Fever.
What's interesting is that he has two grave sites. The one pictured here, on his farm, and one at the Alton National Cemetery in Alton.
I suspect this stone was erected some time after his death for two reasons. 1. His last name is spelled Bodey rather than Boedy as it is spelled in all the military records and the death date is listed as March 28, whereas all other records state it as March 27.
