John Baber passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Indianola. Funeral and Eastern Star services for John will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the Carlisle Christian Church with interment and Masonic services in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines. A lunch will follow interment at the Carlisle Christian Church. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle.

John was born on February 12, 1930 in Ford, Iowa to Maude Stallsworth and Clifford Baber. John worked for Armstrong Tire and Rubber and had various interests in life. Some of those interests included farming, go cart racing, flying, camping, fishing and hunting. John was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge #368 serving as outgoing senior grand steward from 1995-1996. John was also an Eastern Star member and served on the Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department as an EMT from 1962-1983. John is survived by his children; Osha Baber of Carlisle and John(Mary Ann)Powell of Dallas, TX., brother Del(Maggie)Baber and his grandchildren; Jeremy Howard, Bree Whipps, Brandon Powell and Shannon Powell; great grandchildren, Austin, Tanner, Reese, Zoee, Avie, Douglas, Olyvia and Isabella. John was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Muriel "Billie" Baber and siblings, Thelma, Lee, Don, Lois, Dean and Kenny. John was dedicated and devoted to his family and enjoyed the time he spent with them. Memorials for john may be directed to his family to distribute to the charities of John's choosing.
