Rocco was stabbed in Lawrenceville Tuesday and took a turn for the worse Thursday afternoon.

An emotional group of K-9 handlers and their K-9 officers, along with other police officers, lined the walkway outside of the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center for Rocco, an 8-year-old German shepherd.
All K-9s were called to the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center and Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto ordered that flags be flown at half-mast on all city buildings.
Channel 11 anchor David Johnson spoke with defense attorney Phil Dilucente about how Rocco's death impacts the charges that Rush could be facing.

He said charges in the death of a police dog are not the same as a human officer.

Dilucente said aggravated assault with a deadly weapon would apply and that's a 5 to 10 year sentence for each count. If you tack on cruelty to animals, reckless endangerment and other charges, Rush could be looking at 20 to 40 years in prison.

Channel 11 reporter Alan Jennings reported Rush was moved to special isolation custody at the Allegheny County Jail to protect him from the general population.
