When Emily Leatrice first saw the orange male canary in the window of The Pet Stop in Bay Ridge, she said it was love at first sight. Upon entering the shop and hearing his song she asked the shop owners to hold the bird for her.

Her daughter was so excited at the prospect of a warbling bird serenading the household each day that both took car service back to the Pet Stop to bring Harry home.
At first Harry would not sing. He did not respond to being in a quiet place or hearing classical or soft music. When placed in the kitchen at breakfast or in the living room in the afternoon amidst the coming and going of Emily and her daughter with rock music playing in the background, he'd burst into beautiful song.
