When Emily Leatrice first saw the orange male canary in the window of The Pet Stop in Bay Ridge, she said it was love at first sight. Upon entering the shop and hearing his song she asked the shop owners to hold the bird for her.

Emily described the new bird as reminding her of Great Britain's Prince Harry, because of the orangey-red color of his feathers reminded her of the Prince's red hair. Her daughter was so excited at the prospect of a warbling bird serenading the household each day that both took car service back to the Pet Stop to bring Harry home.

At first Harry would not sing. He did not respond to being in a quiet place or hearing classical or soft music. When placed in the kitchen at breakfast or in the living room in the afternoon amidst the coming and going of Emily and her daughter with rock music playing in the background, he'd burst into beautiful song. It was then that Emily realized he was responding to the patterns he had been used to in the shop. After that Harry adapted well and took a liking to Emily's cockatiel, Noel Mon Ami . Noel reciprocated by strutting past Harry's cage each morning and whistling to him while Harry warbled.

Harry was attacked by mites in June of 2000. The topical medication worked to stop the mites but the stress of being handled and not eating properly weakened Harry greatly. He passed on in June 2000. Harry was cremated and when Emily passed on his ashes were added to her cremains.
