Merry came into Emily Leatrice life during the Spring of 2003 while on a visit to her doctor. Emily and her daughter stopped to admire the array of birds playing in the window of the pet shop 33rd and Bird, which was located on West 33rd Street of Manhattan at that time. Merry was sitting calmly between two other birds while the others flew all around or were playing with their toys. When she noticed Emily and her daughter she began to stretch her leg out and open her wings. That charming look on her face immediately brought them into the store. A week later Merry began her life with Emily and her daughter.
Merry was a lovely sunshine yellow color and had tiny black feathers around her legs. These feathers weren't noticeable until she began to move around. She had a way of tilting her head when you spoke to her and would trill softly if you left her alone in the room. She did not like being away from cockatiel Noel Mon Ami even though the two did not interact that much with each other.
Merry was a very nosey bird. If she heard someone come into the room after she'd been covered for the night she'd begin to sing or pace back and forth at the bottom of her cage. The only way to make her stop was to open the covering, say a few words and then cover the cage again.
She loved all kinds of fresh, steamed vegetables and would eagerly take small bits of broccoli, kale, collard greens and corn.
Merry contracted a bad cold during the winter of 2003. She responded well to the vet's treatment but in the Spring of 2004 she became listless as her moult began. She got weaker and passed on in her sleep.
