MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO VISITS MY DEAR GREAT GRANDMOTHER; SHE WAS A PEARL WITHOUT PRICE. I ESPECIALLY WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU WHO VISIT ON HER BIRTHDAYS AND ANGEL DAYS; YOU'RE THE BEST!

Daughter of Henry Mercer and Ellen Dewhurst Mercer.

Sister of nine siblings; here are five so far:

Thomas Henry (1872-1872)
Joseph Edward & Elizabeth Alice* "Libby" (twins)
John (1878-1878)
Mary Ellen*

*Surviving sisters including Sarah Jane.

Married John Duckworth on July 19th 1890 ~ St. Mark's Church in Witton, Lancaster, England.

They had three sons altogether ~ Thomas Henry, John (Jack) and Jack's twin who was still born.

Sarah was a hardworking and dutiful woman always putting her family first.

Later in life she ran a boarding house, in Highland Park, California (a suburb of Los Angeles). Her boarders were mostly women patients that had been released from state hospitals and institutions, who were able to live on the outside. Most of them were elderly with no families to care for them.

Sarah was a very reserved and devout Christian; rarely ever missing a Sunday of Church.

She never lost her prominent English accent or old English sayings and expressions.

She was a most interesting person to talk to and was loved by all who knew her. ~ Marguerite Duckworth (1991)
