Jane Sharples was the younger of two children born to John and Nancy Sharples in Irby Manor Farm, North Yorkshire, England. She and Tom Duckworth were married in California on February 14, 1915 ~ their union produced six children ~ three sons and three daughters ~ her last child Sarah June died the day she was born. Jane was Tom's "English Rose" ~ she had a beautiful ivory complexion, chestnut colored hair and big brown eyes. Her smile would light up a room. She could play the piano by ear, which has been passed down to me, my daughter and one of my daughter's daughters! Her daughters-in-law remembered a woman who loved to window shop, and could walk everywhere forever. She kept her home in apple pie order, and loved to prepare chicken fried steak on Sundays. She lost her beloved brother Harry at the young age of 26, as the result of a car accident. Her family lost her at 46 from complications of diabetes. Grandpa never remarried ~ Tom & Jane, for time and all eternity ~

Safely Home

I am home in heaven, dear ones;
Oh so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in heaven at last.

Did you wonder how I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh, but Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.

And he came himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still;
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's will.

There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remains,
You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come! ~ Anon.
