Before the age of two he and his family moved to the location that became his home for most of the remainder of his life.

J.B., the son of Jesse William Edwards of Pipe Creek and Edith Buckner Edwards of Tarpley, was valedictorian of his class in Pipe Creek High School graduating in 1937. In 1940 he married his sweetheart, Helen Callahan, of Bandera, Texas. J.B. and Helen had 5 children. Jesse (Jay) B. Edwards IV, Jerome Edwards, Jeanette (Jan) Edwards Turner, Jeanene Edwards Mansfield, and Joslyn Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sons, Jerome and Jay, in 1990 and 2004 respectively, and his daughter Joslyn in 1995. His only brother, William Emmett Edwards passed away in 2002. Helen, his wife or 69 years, joined them in Heaven in 2010.

J.B. was a loving father who will be missed by his surviving children, Jan Turner of Pipe Creek, Jeanene Mansfield and husband Keith Mansfield of Pipe Creek, and daughter-in-law Carolyn Edwards of Bandera. He leaves behind ten grandchildren and their families including David Edwards and wife Jennifer of Smithfield, Texas, Jess Edwards and wife Niki of Pipe Creek, Justin Edwards and wife Katie of Duncanville, Shiloh Edwards of Bandera, David Coke Turner III of Pipe Creek, Kathy Turner Rogan and husband Rob of Mooresville, North Carolina, Jana Turner McGowan and husband Jeb of Pipe Creek, Bo Mansfield and wife Tandie of Pipe Creek, Connie Mansfield Carter and husband Ken of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and Brent Mansfield of Pipe Creek . He was also the proud great grandfather of 16 great grandchildren and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a Charter Member of the Bandera County Farm Bureau, a patron of the Bandera County Livestock Show, and a supporter of the Bandera County Little League. He enjoyed supporting his children in their activities and was always a ready volunteer to help with whatever was needed. He continued to enjoy and support the activities of his grandchildren and eventually those of his great grandchildren.

J.B. loved the Lord and lived his life trying to follow Christ's teachings. He served as an ordained deacon in the First Baptist Church of Pipe Creek and, with his wife Helen, worked with the church's youth group for many years. He sang in the choir and was a co-teacher of an adult male Sunday School class. He cheerfully served wherever there was an opportunity.

Over the years he used his talents in many ways. He was a carpenter who partnered with his brother to build houses before World War II, a farmer/rancher always, and a businessman. In the early 1950's he taught himself to operate bulldozers and other heavy equipment and started a business clearing land and building earthen dams and roads. He was an able mechanic and became a skilled worker and administrator. In 1968 be became a licensed real estate broker and owned and operated a successful real estate office in Pipe Creek.

He gave wise council, whether it was asked for or not, and was a loyal friend. He could always be counted on to help someone in need. He was a role model for his family and will be missed by them and many others who knew him.
