Helen Callahan Edwards, 87, of Pipe Creek, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010,at her residence.

She was born May 24, 1922, to Joseph and Ethel Ormsby Callahan on Muenin Ranch, south of Pipe Creek.

Helen attended elementary through high school in the Bandera School District where she was involved with the Drum and Bugle Corps. She never missed a single day of school nor was she ever tardy.
At the age of 10 years, Helen assisted at the family's Callahan Store. She eventually was put in charge of dry goods.

Helen married Jesse "JB" Edwards on August 10, 1940, at the First Baptist Church in Pipe Creek. She remained his dance partner for many years, always taking pride in her appearance.

Helen received her real estate agent's license in 1968 and broker's license in 1969. She served as president of PC Home Demonstration, president of Bandera County Fine Arts from 1991 to 1993, founder of the Madrona Garden Club and president of Lakehills Fire Auxiliary. She also worked with many other organizations throughout her life.
Helen also served as postmaster from 1960 to 1966.
She touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, JB Edwards of Pipe Creek; daughters, Jan Turner of Pipe Creek, and Jeanene Mansfield and her husband, Keith, also of Pipe Creek; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her children, Jay Edwards, Jerome Edwards and Joslyn Edwards, as well as two sisters and 3 brothers.

Pallbearers were Jess Edwards, David Edwards, Coke Turner, Justin Reece Edwards, Brent Mansfield and Bo Mansfield. Honorary pallbearers were Monroe Edwards, William "Bill" Bowie, Doug White, Ronnie Whitehead, Jeb McGowan, Rob Rogan, Ken Carter and Jesse Gordon.
