Husband and Four Children Injured as Train Hits Auto at Santaquin
Car and Occupants Are Hurled Fifty Feet by D. & R. G. Passenger
PAYSON, October 03 -- Two are dead and five lie injured in the Curtiss hospital here, the result of a railroad crossing accident between Santaquin and Goshen. The dead are Mrs. Francis G. CARLSON, 35, and her infant son, Don, 5 months old. The injured are Francis G. CARLSON, 50; broken leg, and his children, Dora, 5, both legs broken, fractured skull; Betty 10, broken leg and broken arm; Eskel, 7, fractured collar bone and should; Albert, 11, both legs broken. All are from Eureka, where Mr. CARLSON is engaged in mining.
The accident occurred at Harold, a railroad crossing on the county highway, when the automobile driven by Mr. CARLSONS was struck by a Denver & Rio Grande passenger train on its way to Silver City from Salt Lake. Just how the accident occurred has not been determined by the officers.
The automobile and its occupants were hurled fifty fee from the tracks. The injured were taken to the Payson hospital. While their injuries are serious, none are expected to die.
Mrs. CARLSON was born in Mount Pleasant and was formerly Miss Bessie NORMAN.
