Fielden Hanks' name was spelled two ways: Fielding and Fielden. His military marker and other history writings from Wolfe County, Kentucky gives his birthdate as 1784; the Memorial Marker at Old Campton Burying Ground shows his birth as in the year 1783.

From the Memorial to Fielding (Fielden) Hanks:
Fielding Hanks, Uncle of Abraham Lincoln.
Fielding Hanks was born in 1783 in Campbell County, Virginia, to Abraham and Sarah Harper Hanks, and was one of nine children. His sister, Nancy Hanks, was born February 5, 1784. Married Thomas Lincoln. And to this union, Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, was born.
In 1818 Fielding Hanks moved from Montgomery County to Camp Town (present day Campton) where he built the first permanent dwelling. He was one of twelve men who organized Morgan County in 1823. His son, Cuthbert Million Hanks, along with Nathaniel Wolfe was instrumental in the formation of Wolfe County in 1860. C.M. Hanks donated land for the Wolfe County Courthouse and Jail, and his son, Christopher Columbus Hanks, gave land for the first High School. He was in the 5th KY INF CSA in 1861 while Lincoln was president. Family grave markers are nearby.
It is family history that young Abe spent time with relatives in this area. Fielding Hanks great-granddaughter remembered her grandfather, Cuthbert Million Hanks, who was four years older than Abe, telling about cousin Abe visiting here and the Hanks Family visiting the Lincolns in Hodgenville, Kentucky.Fielding Hanks was the son of Abraham Hanks Jr and his first wife Sarah Harper,he was the grandson of Abraham Hanks Sr and Jemima Million.

Fielding Hanks named a son Cuthbert Million Hanks, Cuthbert Million was the brother of Jemima Million Hanks and the great uncle of Fielding Hanks.
