He was a race driver competing in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, as well as the NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck Series. He was the ARCA Rookie of the Year in 1996, and finished fifth in points that year.

He won ARCA races in 1998 at Toledo Speedway and Pocono Raceway, and in 2001 at the Michigan International Speedway.

Cause of Death: He suffered a basilar skull fracture after an accident at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. He was pronounced dead in the Infield Care Center.

After his death, the head and neck restraint devices became mandatory in NASCAR racing.
