He met Kathern Dugan and on December 10, 1899 in Hiattville, Kansas, they married. They eventually had eight children.
Apparently suffering from deep depression, he committed suicide in a cornfield. His son, Charles Henry, was the one that found him. This was a tragic occurrence in so many ways. Charles Jr.'s 15th birthday was a little over two weeks away. He had been very close to his father, as well. It would be safe to say that this event colored all events for the rest of his life.
