Dortha May Bilyeu, 84 of Arkansas City died Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Presbyterian Manor Health care Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Central Christian Church in Arkansas City. The Reverend Steve Chambers will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery.

Dortha was born January 2, 1925 to Elva McDonald and Wanda (Smith) McDonald in Catoosa, OK. She married Ernest Harold Bilyeu "Ernie" on July 8, 1940. The couple had four children, Andrew, Wandene, Jeanette and Linda. The couple farmed most of their 54 years until retiring in 1954 and moved into the city. Dortha was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Geuda Springs and the Theaker 4-H club sewing leader in the fifties. She finished high school from a correspondence school. She loved gardening, flowers, canning vegetables and jams. Dortha was avid oil painter and agave the paintings to family to enjoy. In the evenings she would crochet blankets and afagens. She was a member of the Central Christian Church, previous ember of the Mt. Zion Church and the Mt. Hop Church.

Dortha is survived by her children, Andrew Bilyeu and wife, Kathrine of Wellington, Wandene Wiley and husband, Ivan of South Haven, Jeanette Brown and husband, Bruce of Arkansas City, Linda Mullins and husband, Mike of Wichita; 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernie in 1994 and a brother, Bill McDonald.

A memorial has been established with the Central Christian Church of Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
