Doris Bierig, 87, of Arkansas City, died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 14th at the Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City, KS with the Pastor Mark Fry officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Hawks-Shelley Funeral Home in Arkansas City, Kansas. A memorial has been established with the Presbyterian Manor. Contributions can be left the Funeral Home.

Doris was born on December 17, 1924 the daughter of Edward M. and Cleta Cleo (Bannon) Dye in Udall, Kansas. She was educated in Ames, Oklahoma and graduated from Ames High School. On June 29, 1942 she was united in marriage to Glen L. Bierig in Fairview, Oklahoma. The couple later moved to Arkansas City where thy spent the rest of their lives together. Doris was a homemaker and was a member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary and Friends of the Library. She had a passion for collecting butterflies and an avid supporter of the Sweet Adeline's, which her daughter was involved in. Surviving to honor her memory are her sister, Marie Gregg of Arkansas City, three children; James Bierig and wife Collette of Independence, MO, Darla Cellers and husband Larry of Arkansas City, Jon Bierig and wife DeDe of Lawrence, KS, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents and husband of 50 years, Glen Bierig.
