Jack Ellis Bayouth, age 89, retired innovative grocery store entrepreneur, fell asleep in the Lord, Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Visitation 1-4 PM Thursday, Culbertson-Smith Mortuary. Trisagion and Funeral Service 7 PM Thursday, St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral, 7515 E. 13th St. Graveside Trisagion 11 AM Friday, June 28, Old Mission Cemetery. He was born January 26, 1924, in Wichita, to Ellis Jacob and Zakia Bayouth. He served in the US Navy during World War II and was on the USS Columbia when it was hit by a Japanese Kamikaze. After he was discharged, Jack's father, Ellis, passed away and he became the patriarch of the family. He became like a father to his brothers and sisters. Jack and his siblings were owners of several grocery stores in Wichita; Bayouth IGA, Bayouth Food Market, Bayouth East, Bayouth West, Bayouth, Giant IGA, Plaza West IGA, Plaza North IGA and Plaza East IGA and Plaza West Shopping Center. He was a pillar of his Church and served on various committees. He was also involved with St. Ignatius. Jack is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Millie; brother, Larry E. Bayouth; sisters, Sally E. Bayouth, Gloria E. Laham, Eloise E. Bayouth, Gladys E. Bayouth; brothers-in-law, Fred Farha and Victor Laham. Survivors include his wife, Glee; daughters, Sharon Wiles (Hal Forney), Wichita, Jacqueline Bayouth (Shawn), Ames, IA, Kim Lorei (Greg), Dallas, TX; brothers, Bob E. Bayouth (Jeanette), Lindy E. Bayouth, Sid E. Bayouth (Barbara), Harry E. Bayouth (Carol); sister, Vivianne E. Farha, all of Wichita; sister-in-law, Gerri McPherson, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Booker and Jessica Bayouth, Drew, Alexander and Jack Lorei, Merrick (Annette), Kevin and Kerry Wiles; 10 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece. Memorials have been established with St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
