He was born January 25, 1898 at Seneca, Kansas, the son of Charles Milton Crandall and Mary Anderson (Achten) Crandall. He graduated from Seneca High School in 1915. He was a veteran of World War I. He was a painter by occupation.
He was first married to Ethel Melita Hart on April 15, 1920 at the Central Methodist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Ethel died of Scarlet Fever in 1937, leaving him a widower with three sons; John Milton Crandall, Kenneth Edwin Crandall and Charles Clinton Crandall.
On Novmeber 21, 1936 he married Gertrude (Melotte) Bales in Lovelock, Nevada.
He was buried in the Prairie Creek Cemetery on November 24, 1971, with committal service by Wallowa Lake Post 157, in which he was a member.
