Herbert D. Conyers, born August 13, 1935, of Wichita, Kansas, died on Thursday, March 17, 2011, in Oklahoma City at the age of 75. Services are Tuesday, March 22, at 11am, Lakeside United Methodist Church, with burial in Rose Hill Burial Park, both in Oklahoma City. Herb grew up in a Christian family who attended Bethany Methodist Church. He went to Gardner Elementary, Hamilton Junior High School and was a 1953 graduate of Wichita High School East. He married his high school sweetheart Janet at Bethany Methodist Church in 1954 and to this union was born his two children, Shelly and David.
Herb began his career as a civic leader as President of the Kansas Jaycees in 1967 and 1968. He then served as Administrative Assistant to four national Presidents of the United States Jaycees, headquartered in Tulsa, OK. Herb became a Washington Lobbyist for the United States Jaycees for 4 years. Later, Herb worked for Safelite Auto Glass Company as Division Manager, Regional Manager, then National Sales Manager for 18 years, responsible for 500 stores nationwide. Before retirement, he worked for Physicians Mutual as an Insurance Sales Consultant.
Upon retiring, he moved to Beaumont, TX to spend time with his son and daughter-in-law, and then to Oklahoma City, where his daughter's family lives, to continue the quiet years of his life.
Herb was a happy soul that loved to laugh and to tell jokes. He enjoyed politics and history. In spare time, he loved family gatherings, being with his friends, music, movies, and Dean Martin. He adored his children and his grandchildren. Herb simply loved his life.
