Obituary
Died, at her home in Union township, Jefferson Co. Kansas, Leah Edmonds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Edmonds, July 22, 1888, aged 22 years, 3 months and 2 days.
Miss Leah was one of those bright, intelligent and amiable Christian young ladies that would do honor to any home and be a blessing in any community. Early in life she gave her heart to God and her hand to the church, and her religious life became one of marked devotion and exemplary piety, not only in the home but in the commuity where she lived. During her long but patient illness, suffering with that dread diease, consumption, it was my privilege to frequently visit her bed-side and always to find her in that submissive frame of mind that characterizes a true Christian. Truly her submission was marvelous; not one murmur or a single complaint was ever heard, and when asked by the writer, only a few days before she died, whether she expected to get well again, she said, "No, although it seems hard for one so young to depart this life, yet I am resigned to the will of God, and if He sees fit to call me away from here I am willing to go." The funeral services, conducted by the writer at the home of the deceased, were attended by a large circle of sympathizing friends and near relatives, in the afternoon of the 23rd day of July, and with the setting sun in the evening, we laid her body away to rest, to await the morning of the resurrection of life, when all who have fallen asleep in Jesus shall awake and come forth in His own likeness.
Sister Leah leaves a devoted father and mother, five brothers and one sister, with a large circle of near relatives and very many friends to mourn over her early departure. May that grace that saved sister Leah be sufficient for her friends, until they shall all meet again beyond the river of death. C. J. Stark
