Joseph Adelman, 93, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Cherry Laurel Retirement Center after a short illness.
Joseph was born on November 14, 1919 in Harlem, New York, where he spent his young life until he joined the United States Army. He received many commendations for acts of heroism and good conduct. He also received the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theatre Service Medal.
He was employed for 38 years by the FAA and retired from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration on October 20, 1977. After his retirement he moved his family to the Tallahassee area.
Much of his retirement was spent doing wood working, painting, and enjoying his computer. His life was comprised of studying, research and he was an author of children's stories.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Katie Adelman and his first wife, Anne. He is survived by his children, Jeff and Ivy Adelman, Gary and Jackie Adelman and Rhea and Mark Vogelhut; his grandchildren, Alina and Rabbi Tom Gardner, Jacob and Sara Vogelhut and Brooke and Aston Adelman:; and two great grandchildren Natalie and Gavin Vogelhut. He is also survived by his wife Eunice and her children, Alan Watkins, Donna Watkins and Nancy Campbell.
A graveside service will be held Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11:30 AM at Meadowwood Cemetery, 700 Timberlane Rd. Tallahassee, FL. Bevis Funeral Home, (850) 385-2193, www.bevisfh.com, is in charge of the arrangements.
