Evelyn was born July 21, 1922 in Taylor, Texas to Emil and Augusta (Mieske) Kautz. After graduating from Taylor High School as valedictorian of her class, she married Bernard (Coach Birk) Birkelbach in 1946, with whom she shared the joys of life together for 39 years until his passing in 1985. She received her associate's degree from Durham Business School in Austin, Texas and worked as a paraprofessional, most notably as Assistant Williamson County School Superintendent for many years until her retirement.
She was skilled in working with her hands and in her spare time she enjoyed woodworking gardening, working with her fruit trees and anything related to being outdoors. She was a devoted and lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Walburg, Texas and will always be remembered for her service to other people and putting the needs of others before herself.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Bernard, her parents and siblings and by her very best friend, Mary Katherine Raum. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her daughter, Janis Tonn and husband Larry; son Jerry Birkelbach; grandchildren: Keri Leigh Tonn and husband David Heard, Kristi Lynn Tonn, Brittney Lee Gibson and husband Mark and Hunter Bernard Birkelbach; great-grandchildren: Pace David Heard and Penn Bernard Heard, and other loving family and friends.
