SAN ANGELO Freda Nutt Hanks, born Dec. 7, 1915, in Eldorado, Texas, to J.L. Nutt and Maggie Cabiness Nutt, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012, in Round Rock, Texas, after an illness. She was 96. Freda married Billie Hanks Sr. in 1940, and for 63 loving years they enjoyed traveling and working together. They both dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ and were active members of First Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas. Freda greatly enjoyed her sewing and bridge clubs. She was also a partner in Billie Hanks Enterprises. Her favorite activities included family holidays, travel, collecting antiques and being on the Nutt Ranch in Pecos County. She served on the board of directors of the International Evangelism Association and West Texas Ranch for Christ and diligently supported both ministries for 35 years until her health would no longer permit. She had one son, Billie Hanks Jr.; and a daughter, Dianne Hanks. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband and daughter; as well as one much-loved grandson, Barclay Graham. She is survived by her son, the Rev. Billie Hanks Jr. and his wife, Carol Anne of Salado, Texas, and Sapphire, N.C.; two granddaughters, Heidi Hanks Waters and her husband, Eric, of Pflugerville, Texas, and Heather Hanks McCready and her husband, Mark, of Arlington, Texas; a grandson, Preston Graham and his wife, Sunni, of Austin, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at the home of Billie and Carol Anne Hanks, 1530 FM Road 2268 East, Salado, Texas 76571, at 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, followed by fellowship and a light meal. A graveside service will follow in San Angelo, Texas, at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements will be handled by Johnson Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas.
