After serving in the U.S. Army Reserves, he broke into the acting scene in the New York City theatre and landed a small role in the made-for-TV movie, "The Kansas City Massacre" (1975). Some of his memorable screen roles he performed in include: "Hard Times" (1975), "Southern Comfort" (1981), "Blade Runner" (1982), "48 Hrs." (1982), "The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez" (1982), "Crimewave" (1985), "Silverado" (1985), "Enemy Mine" (1985), "Armed and Dangerous" (1986), "D.O.A." (1988), "Red Heat" (1988), "Red Scorpion" (1988), "The Horror Show" (1989), "Tango & Cash" (1989), "Another 48 Hrs." (1990), "The Player" (1992), "Striking Distance" (1993), "Showdown" (1993), "The Fifth Element" (1997) and "Heist" (1998). For television, his credits include: "CHiPs", "The Waltons", "Mork & Mindy", The A-Team", "Miami Vice", "Hunter", "Silk Stalkings" and "Millennium". He also appeared in five films which were released after his death, with the last being "Phoenix Point" (2005).
