Mrs. Allen was born February 18, 1918, in Chesnee, SC, the daughter of the late John B. Henderson (1888-1969) and the late Mamie Emiline (Simmons) Henderson (1888-1972).
She was married to the late Ray C. Allen for 65 years prior to his death in 2001.
She worked at Berkeley Mills for 30 years, retiring in 1983. For many years, Mrs. Allen was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she worked in the library. Her hobbies were painting and crocheting.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Emma (Henderson) Willingham (1907-2000), Lizzie (Henderson) Hughey (1912-2001), and Julia Mae (Henderson) Sevenhuysen (1926-2010); and brothers, Hollis Henderson (1909-2004), H.D. Henderson (1923-2002), and Harold Henderson (1929-2007).
She is survived by her son, Michael, and his wife, Ann, of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Heather Coffin of Bailey Island, ME, Ashley Helsel of Youngsville, NC, and Christopher Allen of Fayetteville, NC; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Christian, and Andrew Helsel, and Emilie and Carter Allen.
Funeral service was held at The Chapel in the Pines of Jackson Funeral Service, Hendersonville, NC, on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation was prior to the service at 12:30 p.m.
