Linda Rae Hartshorn
May 7th, 1956 - July 16th, 2014
Linda Rae Hartshorn, 58, died from ovarian cancer while in the arms of loved ones in Mesa, Arizona on Wednesday, July 16th, 2014. Linda was born on May 7th, 1956 to Ralph and Carla Hartshorn in Limestone, Maine, but was raised in Boise, Idaho and lived there for many years before moving to Arizona in 1996.
Linda is survived by both parents, Ralph Elmo Hartshorn and Carla Jackson Hartshorn; her partner, Teri Davis; two children, James Richard Lemoine II and Teri Lemoine Toprasert; two grandsons, Kyle Lemoine and Jason Korvig; two step-granddaughters, Alexandra and Riley Sherriffs; four siblings, David, Paul, Ralph, and Carlyn Hartshorn; loving nieces, nephews and many other family members.
As a long-time dedicated employee, Linda worked for the United States Postal Service 30 years before retiring earlier this year. Her attention to detail, leadership qualities, and caring personality allowed her be successful in a long career that made her many cherished friends.
She was a passionate advocate for the U.S. military having supported multiple soldiers stationed in war zones overseas. By shipping troops a steady supply of unhealthy goodies and magazines, she built friendships with them that lasted long after they had retired from service. Linda was especially proud to witness one of her grandsons, Kyle, become a Marine last year having attended his graduation from recruit training in San Diego.
Linda became known as "Grandma Zona" to her grandkids after one of them misspoke "Grandma in Arizona". She enjoyed the role of a grandmother, and certainly did her part to bolster the stereotype that grandparents get to spoil the grandkids rotten, with sugar being her instrument of choice.
She became a fan of baseball after moving to Arizona. She enjoyed spring training season and often attended Cubs games. Linda was never shy about making her thoughts known and was a great person to go to for advice, whether it be personal or business. She was always up for a good debate, especially on politics, a subject in which she had no shortage of opinions.
Linda is to be cremated and her ashes spread in accordance with her wishes. The family will hold a private ceremony to honor her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund by mail to 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 1710, New York, NY 10122.
