Dominick J. Tutino, 94, of Paramus, N.J., died on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014. Born in Scranton, Pa., Dominick had lived most of his life in Hawthorne, N.J. He served his country as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps 390 Bomb Group during World War II. On Dec. 11, 1943, Dominick's plane was shot down over Holland. He was captured by the Germans, and spent 17 months as a prisoner of war in Barth, Germany, at Stalag Luft One. In May 1945, the prison was liberated by the Russians, and Dominick was able to return home. For his service, Dominick was awarded the Purple Heart and an Honorable Prisoner of War Medal. Upon his return, Dominick worked for the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles until retirement. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, and procured several patents as an inventor. Dominick was the beloved husband of Anita (nee: Picone) Tutino, Ridgewood, N.J.; loving father of Dominic Tutino, Carole Velardo, Mary Youngquist, Dianna Van Timmeran and the late Jeanette Nancy Tutino; dear grandfather of Dominick Tutino, Dee Tutino, Dominick Velardo, John Tutino, Melissa Heugle, Amanda Tutino, Victoria Fried, Natalie Youngquist, Joseph Van Timmeran and Joshua Van Timmeran; dearest great-grandfather of Dominick, Jack, Tyler and Nicholas; loving brother of Anne Pricci, the late Joseph Tutino and the late Florence Pentasuglio. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. The funeral will depart Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at 9 a.m. from the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne, for a 9:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Anthony R.C. Church, Hawthorne. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Feed the Children, 333 N. Meridian Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73107.
