Phyllis Joan Francis, 72, Altoona, passed away Saturday at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late John Jr. and Lola Evelyn (Lear) Dean.
Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Ann Modico and husband, David, of Altoona; two grandchildren: Mary Kathryn and Joseph Francis Modico; a nephew, John Kutz; and her best friend, Marti Winn.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Cora Wolf; and a brother, John Dean III.
Phyllis was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1963 graduate of Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. She had been employed as a nursing supervisor and IV team nurse at Altoona Hospital and also as a registered nurse at Graterford Prison. She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ and Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona.
Phyllis loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 3 until the 6 p.m. funeral service Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Faber Moyer officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take time to visit shut-ins, call or visit your relatives or friends, or volunteer your time at a nursing home, hospital or retirement community or to the cause of your choice.
