Miss Ed was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Sullains College for Women and the University of Alabama. She held a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Studies and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Soriety where she has remained active for 73 years. Miss Ed volunteered for a number of charitable organizations in Alabama, Indiana, and Florida. One of her favorite volunteer jobs was as a "pink lady" for over 20 years at Gulf Breeze Hospital. She enjoyed being active member of the Pensacola Music Study Club, the Pensacola Opera Guild, and the Pensacola Symphony Guild. She and her husband, Bill, have been members of the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church for the past 26 years.
She was a devoted, loving wife to her husband for the past 70 years. She encouraged and assisted him in his newspaper career. They had the opportunity to travel to Europe, the Far East, and 46 of the 50 states. Upon retirement they built their home on Santa Rosa Sound where they spent many hours enjoying watching the birds and water.
Pallbearers are: Vincent Long, Sam Hutto, Will Brooks, V.J. Long, Ben Watson, and Duncan Watson.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00 AM. A Reception will be held in the Music Suite after the services. A private burial will be held in Barrancas National Cemetery Thursday afternoon.
The family is gratefully appreciative of the loving care given to Miss Ed by her caregivers and Emerald Coast Hospice.
