Harold proudly served in the US Army during the Cold War years 1958-1961, Airborne Certified; he was stationed in Verdun, France. Following his time in the service, Hal worked and retired from International Harvester/Navistar in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Springfield and Urbana, Ohio.

Harold was a member of Maiden Lane Church of God, served on the management board and in other capacities.

Harold was survived by his son, Byron Ross of Chicago, Illinois; "step" daughter; Lindsey Raush and her three children of Toledo, Ohio; sister, Nancy (Ross) Bandy of Indianapolis, Indiana and his loving wife, Vicky Ross of Springfield.
