LUGOFF – Mary Pat Hawkey, devoted wife of 56 years, mother of three and grandmother of five, passed away on August 27, 2013,
Mary Pat was born on December 17, 1932, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Corrine Woodward Edwards and Keith Wiman Edwards. She was raised in Fort Sumner, N.M.
Mary Pat met Donald Hawkey in August of 1956 and married on June 1, 1957.
Mary Pat taught high school for two years then worked in Houston, Texas, for Tennaco Gas Pipeline Company, as administrative trainer. She also modeled professionally for Neiman-Marcus and Sak’s Fifth Avenue.
In 1975, Don and Mary Pat settled in Lugoff, S.C., where they opened Farmer Don’s Supermarket. Mary Pat worked dutifully a variety of roles in the family business until Farmer Don’s was sold in 1984. Mary Pat spent her next 29 years traveling with Don, staying active in the community, tailgating with family members at Gamecock Football games and being a proud grandparent.
Mary Pat is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald Hawkey; daughter, Dawn Hawkey Walker; sons, Blake Edward Hawkey, Brian Keith Hawkey and his wife, Elliott Outlaw Hawkey; grandchildren, Patricia Ann Walker, Caroline Rhett Hawkey, Hayden Ashley Hawkey, Donald Keith Hawkey, and John Ellison Walker.
