Charles Ray “Chuck” Sawyer, 74 of Camden, NC died on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Sentara Norfolk General. He was born on September 27, 1941 in Great Bridge, VA to the late Charlie Ray and Elizabeth Woolslayer Sawyer. Chuck was a Supervisor for 42 years at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and a Deacon at Shiloh Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, restoring and tinkering with old cars, helped build his house, along with his son’s houses and his church, so he was known as a jack-of-all-trades. Above all else, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Linda Brown Sawyer [married Apr 11, 1963]; two sons, Charles Richard “Chuck” and wife, Donna Jones Sawyer and Michael Ray and wife, Missy Walston Sawyer all of Camden; three grandchildren, Carlee Renee, Colby Lee, and Logan Paige; and two brothers, Wiley Ray Sawyer of Hertford, NC and Robert William Marshall of Portsmouth, VA.
A memorial service will be held at the Shiloh Baptist Church on Friday, July 15, 2016, with Pastor Josh Armstrong officiating.
