Robert “Bob” Taylor passed peacefully at home with his wife and best friend of more than forty years, Peggy, at his side. During his last hours, his son, Joe, and daughter, Pepper, were able to also be near his side.
Bob gave 20 years of his life devoted to serving his country, on both land and sea, in the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer on most of the fast attack Nuclear Submarines. He was proud to have supervised on the building of the USS Nimitz, and was a decorated soldier. He was involved in the commission of several vessels and was a Technical Support Engineer. After discharge from the service, Bob returned to Idaho and worked as an Instructor at the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Idaho Falls. He then decided a career change managing a car wash so he could be closer to family and return home nightly to Peggy. His love of the sea returned him to a position as a Superintendent with the Coast Guard working on the Ice Breaker Morro Bay and Neah Bay. After delivering both ships he worked for the Military Sea Lift Command. In 1977 Bob retired and he and Peggy moved to Deming, New Mexico, and created a new life and home. He was able to continue hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors. It was always a large part of his life given he grew up logging in the mountains of Idaho, riding horses, hunting, fishing, and then moving houses with the family ran business. Bob will be remembered for his stories, love of food, jokes, dedication to his family, love of outdoors, and harassment to his loving wife.
Bob is survived by his wife Peggy, four children, Anna “Pepper” Stowe, (Jim Churchman), Robert “Guii” Taylor, Ali Gencarelle (Mike), and Joe Allred. He also loved his seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sister Juanita “Sis” Carnel, many nieces and nephews, three dogs, cats, and other animals. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Robert “Bob” and Fern Taylor, brothers Willford “Bill” Taylor, Thomas “Tuck” Taylor (Kathy), and Larry Taylor. At Bob’s request there will not be a service. His request is to spend time outdoors, and donate to the diabetes foundation, heart foundation, and local veterans association. Just to let you know, he wanted his ashes put into bullets so he could continue to hunt with friends. We opted to finally have a last word, and dad, we’re keeping you with us!
