Logan Cresap III, 49

Logan Cresap, 49, of Schenectady, N.Y., died at home Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006 after a long illness.

Born in White Plains, N. Y., he was the son of the late Logan Cresap II and Laura Bride Applegarth Cresap of Scarsdale, N.Y. He is survived by his wife Catherine.

He graduated from Union College with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and received his master’s degree in teaching from the State University of New York at Albany. He worked for many years as an industrial engineer before changing careers and becoming a technology teacher at Duanesburg High School.

Mr. Cresap was truly a Renaissance man: teacher, poet, philosopher and writer, blacksmith and avid inventor, a builder of rockets, rock climber, snow boarder, and baker of chocolate chip cookies. He was eternally curious, a man always looking to embrace the next challenge.

Above all, he loved learning and teaching, respecting and believing in the innate value and abilities of all whom he came in contact with. He challenged his students to imagine, think, and create using tools and technology to make their ideas a reality. Together with his students he created the only high school custom snowboard manufacturing program in the country. In addition, he also helped his students build a stock car from the ground up, establish a high school radio station, and create a state-of-the-art video editing studio.

Known for his persistence, patience, and enthusiasm in mastering any challenge, he was a devoted father, husband, teacher, friend, and inspiration to all those who knew him.

Besides his wife, Mr. Cresap is survived by a daughter, Sawyer Lilly Cresap of Delmar N.Y. ; two sisters, Laura Anne Cresap Goldstein of Jamestown and Ellen Leah Cresap Canin of Albany, N.Y.; a niece, Rachel Lauren Goldstein; a nephew, Keith Michel Goldstein, Esq; and many cousins. The family wishes to thank Mark Branaugh of Orinda, Calif., for his incredible gift of friendship and help.

A Memorial Service is planned for Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Chapel on Union College campus. A college fund has been established for his daughter, Sawyer Lily Cresap.
