Jean B. Mitchell, 84, of Pennsauken, passed away on April 14, 2014 after a brief illness.

Jean was a graduate of Merchantville High School (1947) and Trenton State Teachers College (1951) now the College of New Jersey. She was a dedicated educator, teaching at Carson and Longfellow elementary schools in Pennsauken for more than 25 years, and was a recipient of the Governors Teacher Recognition Program for outstanding contributions to education. Jean was a native and lifelong resident and supporter of Pennsauken.

Jean will be greatly missed by Jack B. Mitchell, her loving husband of 61 years (preceded by 7 years of persistent courtship); daughter Kim Mitchell, her husband Ralph Abreu and grandson Nicolas Abreu of Montclair, NJ; daughter Kathy Stello, her husband Ralph and grandsons Julian and Rory of West Orange, NJ; son Keith Mitchell and his wife Milissa from Runnemede, NJ; and son Kyle Mitchell, wife Pam, and granddaughters Jacqueline and Anjelica, of Nutley, NJ.

Jean's passions were for family celebrations for every possible occasion, and gatherings and trips with the Tanagers--her beloved and tight-knit group of friends of more than 70 years--as well as college classmates, the Lake House Gang. She loved visiting the Jersey Shore (and Mack and Mancos pizza), reading, music, movies, theater, shopping and giving, especially candy from Aunt Charlottes in Merchantville. Late in her life, she also became a sports fan of the Phillies. She enjoyed travel around the United States and to Ireland, England and France, and was a volunteer at the Pennsauken Free Library, a supporter of the Philadelphia Art Museum, Pennsauken Food Pantry and Salvation Army.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m, at Inglesby and Sons Funeral Home, 2426 Cove Road, Pennsauken, NJ, 08109.
