Celia Marie Stallings, 69, of Rome City died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

In her younger years, she traveled extensively through France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, North Africa, French Morocco, Tangiers, the Isle of Capri, Austria, Lichtenstein, Hungary, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, East Germany, Berlin, and Czechoslovakia with her parents.

She attended schools in Muncie, Texas, Germany, and Indianapolis. She also attended Ball State University in Muncie.

Celia served in the U.S. Navy from January, 1963 to October, 1964.

Ms. Stallings worked for JCIM, Inc. in Kendallville for 15 years.

She was a huge fan of Notre Dames' Fighting Irish, the Broncos, and the Colts.

She enjoyed playing Trivial Pursuit and Jeopardy. She loved to talk with people about anything and everything. She was an avid enthusiast of the pioneer period reenactments and participated in the Love Way, Menominee, Hurseys, and Stone's Trace Rendezvous' for 18 years. Her nickname at camp was Rusty Rifle, so earned because as she was ready to compete in a muzzle loader shoot off at Stone's Trace, she took aim but her rifle would not discharge. Her son and friends looked at her rifle to figure out her problem and found she had not cleaned or oiled her gun before she stored it away the past winter. It was rusty inside, hence her nickname at camp became "Rusty Rifle".

She was born December 8, 1943, in Yuba City, California, to Lt. Col. Wesley R. Gough and Irene M. (Barron) Gough.

Surviving are a daughter, Dani (Adam) Rittermeyer of Wolcottville; a son, Wesley (Tina) Stallings of Goshen; granddaughter, Brienna Rittermeyer; grandson, Adam Rittermeyer; two great grandsons; long time friend, Linda Harper of Rome City; and a cousin, Wesley (Patricia) Herczeg of Dublin, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and an uncle and aunt, John and Lucille (Barron) Herczog.

A public memorial service will be held for family and friends at this fall's Stone's Trace Festival in Ligonier in September, and all are invited to participate in this time of remembrance for the life of Celia Stallings.

Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville is assisting the family with arrangements.
