Dr. Linton D. Abner, 85, of Lake Worth, Fla., passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at his residence.

Born in Berea, Ky., he spent his childhood in Austin and North Vernon. He had been a resident of Lake Worth for 12 years after living in Elwood since 1962 as a practicing optometrist until his retirement.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Elwood, an avid golfer, bowler and poker player. He was a lifetime member of Elwood Elks Club, American Legion and Elwood Country Club, where he was on the board of directors for many years. He loved to dance with his wife and daughters.He was a 1947 graduate of North Vernon High School and a 1962 graduate of Indiana University School of Optometry.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Pfaffenberger Abner of Lake Worth, Fla., formerly Elwood and Seymour; two daughters, Babette (Steve) Harpster and Elisa (Tim) Abner-Taschwer; and one grandson, Jack Abner Harpster.He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Clara Abner; and seven siblings, Taulby Abner, Effie Miller, Charles Abner, Gardner Abner, J.B. Abner, Elisha Abner and Peggy Gottwallas.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 p.m. May 3 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 333 S. Chestnut St., Seymour.
