George Daniel Gilbreath Lt. Col.,USAF (Ret.) on September 18, 2014. He served in the Air Force for 22 years. During his career he served at many posts, both abroad and at home, his loving wife Mary traveling with him. After retirement, George continued to serve his country by working in a Civil Service capacity in Washington, DC.
George was very active in Masonic organizations in northern Virginia. He served as Master of the Blue Lodge in Arlington, Treasurer of Old Dominion Commandery No. 11 Knights Templer, a member of the Sojourners, and a Greeter with the Shriners.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary; sons, George, Jr. (Julia) and Hugh (Vanessa); his daughter, Theresa Schmidt (Roger); five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Aileen Rice.
Visitation and service will be held Monday, September 22, 1 to 3 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg, VA. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or the the Alzheimer's Association.
