Professional Engineer, Lt. Col. (Retired), formerly of Falls Church VA, passed peacefully after 92 years of an exemplary life. A June '43 graduate of USMA, he served as a combat engineer in both WWII and the Korean War, earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. A member of the Corps of Engineers, he was happiest building roads, dams, and making maps; he produced the 1st topographical map of Cuba, and was Military Attaché in Honduras 1961-63. Upon retirement, he was head of Professional Services at the Inter-American Development Bank. But his loyalty, loving personality, upbeat demeanor, and steadfast dedication to friends and family exceeded his many professional accomplishments. His wife, Iyllis Elizabeth Lee Hutchin, predeceased him in 2003. He is survived by his children, Iyllis H. Moore, Nancy Lee Hutchin, James W. Hutchin, and daughter-in-law, Sarah F. Hutchin. Mr. Hutchin is also survived by six grandchildren (Eric Longen, Kai Guiland, Petra Guiland, Elizabeth Hutchin-Bellur, Megan Hutchin, and Kyle Hutchin) and five great grandchildren (Zavier Guiland, Liam Guiland, Sebastian Harrington, Ava Guiland, and Loretta Harrington) who greatly valued his love and humor, along with his tales of adventure. A man with a great and loving heart, true courage, and deep integrity, he leaves an unfillable hole in the lives of those who loved and depended upon him. Funeral services will be held at the Old Post Chapel, Ft. Myer VA, Monday, September 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. with internment in Arlington National Cemetery immediately following.
