He is survived by his wife: Daisy Ross of Ocilla; five children: Damon Keith Ross & Janet of Brunswick and Daniel Phillip Ross & Marlo of Douglas both sons from his first wife, stepson Randall McCranie of Ocilla, Jerry Darrin Ross of Ocilla and Dana Herrington & Jason of Ocilla; a brother, Gerald Autry Ross & Jerri of Ocilla, seventeen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Jimmie Ruth Ross Owens.
Funeral services were held at 11 AM, Thursday, October 2, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla. Interment followed in the Brushy Creek Cemetery in Irwin County.
Mr. Ross lived in the community all of his life and was a 1962 graduate of Irwin County High School where he played on the basketball team and was a state FFA officer. Mr. Ross was a farmer and owned/operated Rite-Way Trucking. He was a former president of the Irwin Youth League and coached baseball. Along with D.W. Harper, he coached an 18 & under softball league team to a national championship. He was an avid lover of sports, especially the Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed playing billiards and cards as well as fishing. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
