Frank L. Evans, 83, a long-time resident of Thomas, Idaho, passed away at the age of 83 on January 29, 2015.
Frank was born September 30, 1931 in Worland, Wyoming to Thomas Lyman and Stella Price Evans. He spent much of his youth in Malad, Idaho going to school, riding horses, fishing, skiing, and sleigh riding. As the eldest of five children, Frank was blessed to be raised by loving parents, and influenced by a special grandmother, aunts, uncles and friends.
Frank married the love of his life, Shirley Stander, in the Logan Temple on October 2, 1952. After serving in the Navy, they moved to Thomas were they raised five children, farmed, drove a school bus, and milked cows. Frank also worked at the American Potato Company, eight years with the Bingham County Sheriffs Department, and Walmart.
As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Frank loved serving in the bishopric, as Scout Master, teacher, temple worker, home teacher, and other callings. In addition, he was a long-time devoted member of the Twin Buttes Lions Club.
Frank was a “doer.” He loved the earth and said he liked to plant seeds and watch them grow. He liked to work and balanced life by boating, riding snow mobiles and four-wheeling. Frank genuinely liked people and could always find good in others. He was a fan of an entertaining story, music, square dancing, every tool known to man, cars, licorice, ice cream, popcorn, Guy Mangum’s divinity, and never tired of a good conversation.
Frank will be greatly missed by his wife; children, Carrie (Robert) Archibald, Sharon (Stephen) Goodrich, Richard (Janet) Evans, Margene Andrus, Larett (Wayne) Layton; 18 grandchildren; and 44 great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, LuDell Evans, Clodell (Bill) Rowe and Dan (Kathryn) Evans; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews; that he dearly loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Ryan.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to neighbors, friends, and the loving staff at the Idaho State Veteran’s Home for generous and unselfish service.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6th, 2015 at the Thomas LDS Church. The family will meet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Hawker Funeral Home and at the church on Friday for one hour prior to services. Internment will be at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
