Patricia Louise (McConnell) Smith passed away on Sunday, 29 March 2015 in Ridgecrest, CA.
Patricia comes from a long line of pioneers in the area. She was born in the Grapevine Canyon Aqueduct Station west of Inyokern, CA on 30 September 1929. She grew up in Palmdale, CA and Lancaster, CA until 1958, when she moved to the Van Nuys, CA area as a checker for Food Fair markets
After retiring she moved to Nine Mile Canyon with her daughter, Zinda Edgar, where she resided until 1992. she moved to Ridgecrest and remained there until her death.
An avid mountain and desert hiker with a passion to camp with family and friends, she loved the outdoors. In 1926 her parents, Marvin and Dorothy McConnell homesteaded 160 acres in Nine Mile Canyon, having the deed signed by the president.
She is survived by her daughter, Zinda Edgar of Lone Pine, CA, son and daughter-in-law Jonn and Steffany Lear of Garden Ridge, TX, three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Eleanor Rhoades, Dorothy Fulp and Barbara Maag and brothers Robert McConnell and Thomas McConnell.
She will be missed at all campsites and family gatherings.
