In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ramona J. Chapman; his companion for over 26 years, Rebecca Jean Garrison.
Survivors include two sons, Roy T. Fitzgerald, lll and wife, Lisa of Albemarle County and Mitchell Todd Fitzgerald and wife, Sheila of Afton; four grandchildren, Alexandra Fitzgerald, Anna Fitzgerald, Mitchell Fitzgerald and wife, Miranda and Matthew Fitzgerald.
